Kapit-bahay (n: neighbor; also neighboring, near). Kapit-bahay, literally translated is neighbor. It is usually a person or persons, a family or families. But kapit-bahay or neighbor goes beyond the proximity of living next to each other. Being a kapit-bahay or neighbor is a proactive act of reaching out, and establishing good relationships and possibly friendships with one's kapit-bahay or neighbor. And this can lead to building caring communities and hopefully societies.
Through cooking and sharing meals and stories, dadshomecookedmeals.com hopes to build good relationships with our kapit-bahay (neighbor/s) by being a good kapit-bahay/neighbor.
WELCOME TO RUTILIO GRANDE COMMUNITY
There is a place, a safe place, where migrants felt welcomed. The atmosphere was in solidarity with the people who struggle; it is a place where justice and hospitality grounded in Christian faith is evident. The place is literally a house. It is called Rutilio Grande House.
15 years ago, Lori bought the house to be a home for the Rutilio Grande Community, "an intentional community where people choose to come together and live as they wish for the world to live, allowing people to live the life they are created for, rather than one thrust upon them by poverty or circumstance."
