Toronto and other neighboring cities like Scarborough and Mississauga are multi-cultural cities. People from different countries, races and cultures live and interact with each other every single day. These interpersonal encounters allow us to learn about each other's cultures including food.
It has often been said if you want to learn about a people's culture taste their food. And this is what Road Trip is all about. Learning about different cultures and people - through food!
We'll take you with us on an adventure, a road trip, to discover and hopefully learn about different cultures and food!
Casa Manila
One restaurant brand. Two branches. Casa Manila brings upscale dining to Filipino dishes.
We went to Casa Manila on York Mills Rd. No reservations necessary. There was ample parking at the back of the building. We were welcomed by a very Hispanic-themed décor with the Philippine Flag. We waited to be seated. Our table was near the window.
The chairs and tables were well kept and maintained. What struck me was the hanging Capiz lamp shades that lit each table.
360 The Restaurant at the CN Tower
It is rare that my wife and I go to fine dining restaurants. We do not claim that we are food experts or connoisseurs or... influencers. But we know if the food is cooked properly and tastes like how it is supposed to taste. We do like to experiment. We are adventurous with food.
Our experience at the 360 Restaurant is definitely one to remember. It was a wonderful experience. Definitely we will come back with the family.
It was a slow day and my wife and I were driving around our neighborhood just to occupy our time and to see what we have been missing. We drove through some inner roads we don't usually take. We were surprised to see a meat processing plant in the area which we never knew was there. It was past noon and the factory employees were returning from their lunch break. We followed the line of people to see where they were coming from and on the opposite side of the road is a processed meat retail store made from a steel container, and to its left is a another steel container and painted on its façade The Butcher's BBQ (https://www.butchersbbq.ca/). My wife and I were hungry so we decided to try it out.
Fr. Luis suggested that we start with the Saganaki. He said that it comes with a 'show'. Saganaki is any variety of dishes served in a small frying pan. In this case ours is an appetizer of fried cheese served in a small frying pan. We all agreed to the Saganaki.
Montreal is still very much French. My wife and kids suggested that we try something French and what could be more French than crepes and bagels! My kids did their research and came up with a must-go-to restaurant. I must say, any trip to Montreal always comes with gastronomic discovery. This year we discovered Chez Suzette.
B’s Sizzling Kitchen is a quaint restaurant. It can accommodate around 25 – 30 people. Upon entering, staff welcomed us with a “Magandang umaga po. Ilan po sila” (Good morning! How many are you?) I was with my family so I said there are five of us. The staff joined two tables to accommodate us. We were given the menus so we can go over their offerings.
Located between two major intersections Dundas St. W and Pacific Ave., and Dundas St. W and High Park Ave., Kanto by Tita Flips is at the center of The Junction community action. Along Dundas St. W are other establishments, organic cafes, farmers' markets, bars and microbreweries; like Kanto by Tita Flips, that cater not only to the young and hip but also to families who live in and around the surrounding neighborhood.
At the heart of Scarborough Ontario is Baomama, a restaurant that offers a unique Filipino twist to bao.
